Coir Cot Bed Mattress

A baby's spine is still forming. A mattress that's too soft lets the hips sink lower than the head. Over time, that can affect posture.

We tested our coir cot bed mattress with a pediatric nurse in Nanchang. She brought a pressure map and laid different babies on it. What we found: at around 85 HD (that's a firmness measure), the spine stayed straight. At 70 HD, the hips dipped.

So we aim for 80–90 HD. That's firm. Some parents think it's too firm at first. But babies don't need plush. They need flat and even.

The coir's natural structure also has tiny air channels – not 92% or any exact number we can guarantee (every batch is different). But we do know this: when we put a wet cloth on it, the moisture disappeared in under two minutes. That's good enough to prevent heat rash, at least in our tests.

Our first prototype had a silver-ion antibacterial fabric. A chemical engineer friend tested it and said: "This works, but do you really need it? Good airflow does the same thing without chemicals."

So we dropped the treatment. Now we use Class A baby fabric – no whiteners, no heavy metals, no anti-bacterial coating. It's just clean cotton. We wash it twice before sewing. That's it.

We don't claim 99% kill rates anymore. We can't prove that. And frankly, a clean, dry mattress doesn't need to kill bacteria – it just needs to not grow them.

We offer 15 years on the coir core – no sagging more than 1.5cm. That's based on our oldest coir cot bed mattress from 2018. We checked it last month. Still flat.
