A spring mattress, also known as a Simmons mattress, is a type of mattress that uses springs as its core. The name "Simmons" originates from the American brand Simmons, founded in 1870 by Zalmon G. Simmons, who began producing spring mattresses in 1876. Simmons mattresses entered Shanghai, China in the 1930s and gradually became synonymous with spring mattresses.
Spring mattresses are mainly divided into connected springs, single-wire springs, and pocket springs. Connected springs use a continuous steel wire structure; single-wire springs are formed by winding individual steel wires; pocket springs use individual springs in fabric pockets to reduce sleep disturbance. The latest technological developments include the "Dynamic Self-Sensing Pocket Spring System," which achieves millisecond-level dynamic response support, and smart mattresses integrating intelligent sleep monitoring modules. The production of this type of mattress must comply with standards such as QB/T 1952.2 "Upholstered Furniture - Spring Mattresses" and is subject to market supervision and spot checks. [20-21] When purchasing, test the firmness and support. Use a mattress with a slatted frame (≤5cm spacing) or a firm mattress board. New mattresses need to be ventilated for 24 to 48 hours, and it is recommended to flip them over every 3 to 6 months to distribute pressure evenly. Generally, mattresses should be replaced after 8 years of use. Daily care should include moisture prevention, and regular vacuuming is recommended.
